Former U.S. Air Force Survival (SERE) Instructor, Byron Kerns, is coming to the St. Louis area. Byron will be teaching his Wild Wisdom Course.
The Wild Wisdom course is a popular training segment for those seeking to learn wilderness survival on a weekend timeframe, but desire the challenge of having less equipment and limited rations - they want a more realistic approach to survival.
Usually, students desiring this course have some camping and wilderness experience under their belts. It's a great course to gain individual and group survival skills and increase confidence in a wilderness environment. Those who graduate from this training are often amazed at the amount of instruction provided over the weekend timeframe. The group will learn together and become proficient working as a team. The Wild Wisdom course is two-days and one-night in the woods with minimal equipment and limited food. Students are not allowed commercial tents. They will build and sleep individually in shelters made of man-made and natural materials. Needs will arise for improvised equipment and there will be various challenges whereby students can "earn" additional food. The course concludes with a written test and a gift will be awarded the top scorer. Note from the Instructor: The only food provided will be the evening meal. No other foods allowed. Student personal equipment will be carried in their pockets and in a fanny pack. Potable water will not be provided. All water will be purified. Sleeping bags are not allowed. Students will use a blanket roll.
